The past two years have been life-defining for many people and due to the circumstances, some of us had started evaluating our priorities and what we consider important in life as well as the time that we spend at work. Obviously, spending time at a job that doesn’t fulfill us is easier to identify when you are in lockdown and working from home.

Nowadays we are hearing about the Great Resignation; “an idea proposed by Professor Anthony Klotz of Texas A&M University that predicts a large number of people leaving their jobs after the COVID pandemic ends and life returns to “normal.””*

The Great Resignation is happening across all sectors. Employees in the service sector gaining minimum wages in the US and Europe are not returning to their jobs or are quitting and it is making it very difficult for business owners to continue providing service that customers demand.

Managers are finding that professionals in mid-career are packing up and leaving their companies looking for better pay, purposeful jobs, or simply better conditions.

Are you one of the people looking for a career change? Are you thinking about forging a new path? Maybe you would like to explore something new but don’t know where to start?

Some ideas to get you going:

1- Do an inventory of your skills and abilities. This will help you guide you towards a new direction and it would allow you to keep in mind what you really like to do and are good at if the search gets overwhelming. Check out our free tool to identify your super powers.

2- Evaluate what you like and don’t like from your current or previous jobs. By identifying these points, you will be able to channel your search and make it easier.

3-Connect, meet, and talk to others. If you already have an idea of what type of job or career you want to pursue, is a good idea to reach out to people already doing the job. LinkedIn is a great tool, but you can also, attend conferences or networking events. Check out our networking tool here.

4- Research organizations that align with your values and that allow you to do the work you want to do.
